An adults only boutique hotel in one of the most magical places on earth, Santa Teresa Costa Rica. The space is designed by Costa Rican architects at Studio Saxe and filled with hand picked locally sourced furniture and design details. With only five rooms your stay at Mint will have you feeling like you are part of a little community, with other travelers and locals.
We, Jonas and Johanna - owners and 'do it alls' of Mint, have spent ten years in this beautiful town and love to share our personal favorites among restaurants, excursions and beaches.
Our five rooms are scattered across a hill overlooking the Pacific ocean. All of the rooms have a king-size bed, air conditioning, ocean view and a private rooftop terrace. They are all furnished with locally sourced wooden furniture and art from Costa Rican artists. The difference between our Double Rooms and Deluxe Double Rooms is the location on the property, where the latter are located higher up and therefore have a better view and more privacy. Our Deluxe Pool Room has the same amenities as the other rooms plus a private plunge pool and is located next to the Deluxe Double Rooms.
Mint is located about 500 meters from the beach, up a hill overlooking the ocean. You can easily walk to the beach but the way back will be a bit sweaty. Santa Teresa as a town doesn’t have a center but rather everything is spread out along a road next to the ocean. We are located about 10 minutes walk from a lot of popular restaurants such as Koji’s, Katana, Drift Bar and Banana Beach.
Check in is at 3pm and check out at 11am. If you arrive early or want to depart later, you are more than welcome to leave your bags in our reception and enjoy the pool area.
These two room types have the same layout but the difference is the location on the property. The Double Rooms are located on top of the communal area and the Deluxe Double Rooms are located higher up, giving them a better view and more privacy. Our new Pool Suite is located next to the Deluxe Double Rooms and has a different layout plus a private plunge pool.
Breakfast is served 8am-10am down in the lounge area where we eat together by the communal table. The breakfast is served buffet style and include freshly baked bread and toppings, tropical fruits with yoghurt and homemade granola plus our famous banana bread and all the coconuts and coffee you can drink.
You can change or cancel your reservation free of charge up to 30 days before arrival. If you cancel after that we will charge you for the first night of your stay. No shows will be charged the full amount of the booking.
Unfortunately our two resident dogs, Puff and Khaleesi love being the only pets of the hotel but they did tell me to let you know they are here for all your cuddle needs plus cute photos.
From San Jose I would recommend renting a car and drive, taking a shared shuttle or catching a domestic flight to Cobano and then a taxi from there.
The drive takes about 5 hours including a 1.5 hour ferry ride (find the schedule here and buy your tickets online here). For car rentals we recommend Alamo or Budget or since they have offices here in town. For shuttles we recommend using Tropical Tours. They have daily departures from both San Jose and Liberia for 50 usd per person and the drive takes 5-6 hours. The domestic flight to Cobano is by far the fastest option. The flight takes 30 minutes from San Jose and the taxi ride from Cobano to Mint 20 minutes. Find flight tickets with Sansa or Costa Rica Green Air. From Cobano we can help reserve a taxi to take you to Mint for 40 usd. You can find Mint in Google Maps here.
We have 3 seasons in this part of Costa Rica: Dec-April is the dry season with sunny days and almost no rain at all, May-August plus November is Green season with mostly sunny days and rain showers at night and September-October is rainy season when most places close down and we just wait out the rain. The weeks around Christmas/New Year's and Easter get very busy so if you are traveling these dates make sure to reserve your room and preferred excursions and rentals well in advance.
Santa Teresa is famous for its’ consistent surf, amazing yoga and beautiful beaches but you can also go horseback riding on the beach, try your luck fishing (Jonas came home with a 10 kg mahi mahi last time), zip line through the jungle, rent an atv and drive on dirt roads to nearby waterfalls and much more. If you’d like to reserve any lessons, tours or rentals just send us an email and we’ll help you out!
“Stay at newly opened adults-only boutique hotel Mint Santa Teresa. With only four rooms, each with a rooftop terrace, the maximum capacity is eight guests so naturally you’ll feel like you’re part of a small community among the other guests.”
“Mint Santa Teresa, encompassing a total of 660 square-meter area, blends a European design aesthetic with Costa Rican craftsmanship - created to ensure that guests can commune with nature, each other and local people.”
“Contemporary Costa Rican coastal hotel combines modern design and traditional craftsmanship. The experience at Mint Santa Teresa is part of a new form of tourism, where visitors want to learn more about a destination and get a sense of what it is like to actually live there.”
“Studio Saxe has designed Mint to fit in with its surroundings. Four guest bedrooms are seperated into individual volumes to step down the hilly site, resting on terraces made of stone. Gaps left between the suites leave space for trees to grow through.”
“Mint welcomes you to a world of blue and green, a chance to escape from urban reality. While the sharp lines and bright white of the buildings contrast the lush green backdrop, there is a yin and yang between nature and concrete, where neither dominates the other - they share the space.”
"Beach-lovers and surf hounds have long favoured the wild beauty of Costa Rica for their annual dose of sun and sea. The arrival of the bijou, adults-only Mint Santa Teresa hotel is just the excuse we need to block out some dates for our summer retreat"
